nafcillin + tobramycin

Nafcillin + tobramycin is an antibiotic combination used to treat bacterial infections, particularly right-sided Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis in intravenous drug abusers. Nafcillin is a penicillinase-resistant penicillin effective against susceptible staphylococcal infections, while tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with activity against Gram-negative bacteria. This combination leverages nafcillin's effectiveness against methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) with tobramycin's broad-spectrum activity against Gram-negative organisms. In clinical studies, this 2-week combination regimen has shown a 94% cure rate for selected cases of S. aureus endocarditis.
