Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NAL1866 is a sustained-release microsphere formulation of octreotide acetate, a synthetic octapeptide analogue of endogenous somatostatin, developed by NAL Pharmaceutical Group. Octreotide acts as a potent agonist at somatostatin receptors (SSTRs), particularly subtypes SSTR2 and SSTR5, mimicking the natural hormone's inhibitory effects on the secretion of growth hormone, glucagon, insulin, and various gastrointestinal peptides. The NAL1866 asset utilizes a microsphere delivery system designed for injectable administration to provide prolonged therapeutic effect, primarily targeting supportive oncology indications such as the management of symptoms associated with metastatic carcinoid tumors and vasoactive intestinal peptide-secreting tumors (VIPomas). It is currently in preclinical development.
