naltrexone + olanzapine

Naltrexone + olanzapine is a combination of an opioid receptor antagonist (naltrexone) and an atypical antipsychotic (olanzapine). This combination has been studied as a potential approach to mitigate the significant weight gain and metabolic disturbances associated with olanzapine treatment while maintaining its antipsychotic efficacy. Naltrexone acts as a pure opioid antagonist with high affinity for μ-opioid receptors, which may be involved in feeding behavior and metabolism. While clinical studies have shown that this combination can significantly decrease fat mass and increase fat-free mass, it has not demonstrated significant effects on overall weight or BMI reduction compared to olanzapine alone.
