Overview

Nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) is a synthetic form of hydroxyapatite engineered at the nanoscale to closely mimic the natural mineral component of tooth enamel and dentin. It acts by penetrating enamel porosities, forming a protective coating on teeth, promoting remineralization, reducing sensitivity, and potentially inhibiting bacterial adhesion[1][2][6][7]. Fluoride works by incorporating into tooth structure as fluorapatite, increasing resistance to acid demineralization and providing long-term protection against cavities[3][5][7]. The combination leverages both agents' strengths—nHA's ability to repair microdefects in enamel and reduce sensitivity with fluoride's proven efficacy in cavity prevention. This combination may be found in certain prescription or over-the-counter dental gels or pastes.
