Nano-hydroxyapatite + potassium nitrate is a combination used primarily in oral care products, especially toothpastes, for the management of dentin hypersensitivity. Nano-hydroxyapatite (nano-HAP) is a synthetic form of hydroxyapatite at the nanoscale that mimics the natural mineral component of tooth enamel and dentin. It works by occluding open dentinal tubules and remineralizing enamel, thereby reducing sensitivity and promoting dental health[4][6][8]. Potassium nitrate acts as a desensitizing agent by depolarizing nerve endings in the teeth to reduce pain signals associated with sensitivity[1]. The combination leverages both mechanisms—physical tubule occlusion from nano-HAP and neural desensitization from potassium nitrate—to provide relief from dental hypersensitivity[2][5]. This formulation is commonly found in over-the-counter toothpaste products.
