Overview

Nano-HAP toothpaste is a topical dental formulation containing nanohydroxyapatite (nano-HAP), a synthetic mineral that is chemically and structurally similar to natural tooth enamel and dentin. Developed by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSA) in collaboration with SANGI Co., Ltd., the product is primarily indicated for the relief of dentin hypersensitivity (DHS). Its mechanism of action involves the physical occlusion of exposed dentinal tubules and the remineralization of the tooth surface, thereby preventing external stimuli from reaching the dental pulp and reducing pain. Clinical evaluation, including a randomized Phase 2 trial (NCT02918617), has demonstrated that formulations containing 10% or 15% nano-HAP are effective in reducing sensitivity, showing comparable efficacy to other desensitizing technologies such as calcium sodium phosphosilicate (NovaMin).
