Overview

Naproxen + aspirin refers to the **concurrent use of naproxen and aspirin**, both of which are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Naproxen acts as a reversible inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis, which leads to reduced inflammation, pain, and fever. Aspirin is an irreversible inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (mainly COX-1 at low doses), inhibiting thromboxane A2 production in platelets, thereby reducing platelet aggregation and providing cardioprotection. When used together, these drugs can provide enhanced anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, but they also significantly increase the risk of gastrointestinal toxicity and bleeding. Importantly, naproxen can interfere with the antiplatelet effect of aspirin, potentially undermining the cardiovascular protective benefit of aspirin. This combination is not available as a fixed-dose medication but refers to simultaneous administration by prescription or self-medication[1][3][4][5][6].
