Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Naproxen sodium + caffeine is a fixed-dose combination of two active ingredients used primarily for the treatment of acute pain conditions, including migraines, tension-type headaches, and postoperative pain. Naproxen sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting prostaglandin G/H synthase 1 (COX-1) and prostaglandin G/H synthase 2 (COX-2) enzymes, leading to decreased prostaglandin synthesis and resulting in analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects[8]. Caffeine acts as an adjuvant analgesic; it enhances the effectiveness of pain relievers through mechanisms such as central nervous system stimulation and vasoconstriction[5][1]. The combination is particularly effective in managing moderate to severe pain after surgical procedures such as wisdom tooth extraction[5].
