Overview

Naratriptan + naproxen is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used for the acute treatment of migraine headaches. Naratriptan is a selective serotonin (5-HT1B/1D) receptor agonist, known as a triptan, which works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain and inhibiting pain signal transmission as well as the release of substances that cause migraine symptoms[1][5][7]. Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis and thereby decreasing inflammation, pain, and fever[6][8]. The rationale for combining these drugs is to target multiple mechanisms involved in migraine pathophysiology—naratriptan addresses vascular and neuronal components while naproxen reduces inflammation and central sensitization[8]. This combination aims to provide more effective relief than monotherapy.
