Overview

This product is a combination of a bioresorbable nasal stent (Nasopore) and two antibiotics, gentamycin and bacitracin. The Nasopore component is a fragmentable, biodegradable polyurethane foam designed for use as a space-occupying stent in the nasal cavity following surgery or trauma. Its primary functions are to separate mucosal surfaces to prevent adhesions, provide hemostasis by tamponade effect, and absorb blood or drainage. When combined with gentamycin (an aminoglycoside antibiotic) and bacitracin (a polypeptide antibiotic), the device also delivers local antibacterial action to reduce the risk of postoperative infection at the surgical site. Gentamycin acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, while bacitracin interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis.
