This combination therapy, developed by ViroCure Australia in partnership with ViroCure Inc., involves the synergistic use of Natural Killer (NK) cells and a proprietary oncolytic virus, typically a strain of Reovirus (Mammalian orthoreovirus). The oncolytic virus is designed to selectively infect and replicate within cancer cells—particularly those with activated Ras signaling pathways—leading to direct cell lysis (oncolysis). This process releases tumor-associated antigens and pro-inflammatory cytokines into the tumor microenvironment, which "warms up" the tumor and enhances the recruitment and activation of the co-administered NK cells. The NK cells then exert potent cytotoxic effects against the remaining tumor cells, providing a dual-action approach to overcome the immunosuppressive environment of solid tumors. The program is currently in preclinical development for the treatment of bladder cancer.
