This is a combination cell therapy product consisting of natural killer (NK) cells and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). NK cells are innate immune lymphocytes capable of directly killing tumor or virus-infected cells without prior sensitization, and are being developed for cancer immunotherapy as well as for enhancing immune function in other diseases. MSCs are multipotent stromal/stem cells with the ability to differentiate into various cell types and possess strong immunomodulatory properties, including suppression of excessive immune responses and promotion of tissue repair. The rationale for combining these two cell types is to leverage the cytotoxic anti-tumor activity of NK cells together with the immunoregulatory, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-repairing effects of MSCs. This combination may enhance therapeutic efficacy in oncology (especially solid tumors), autoimmune diseases, inflammatory conditions, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), and regenerative medicine by both attacking abnormal/pathogenic target cells and modulating the host environment to promote healing[1][2][3][4][5]. Clinical research on each component individually is ongoing; combination approaches are under investigation but not yet widely approved.
