Overview

Nebivolol + atenolol is a combination of two beta-adrenergic receptor antagonists (beta-blockers) used for the management of hypertension and other cardiovascular conditions. Nebivolol is a highly selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist with additional vasodilatory properties mediated by stimulation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase via beta-3 adrenergic receptor agonism, leading to increased nitric oxide production and vasodilation. Atenolol is a cardio-selective beta-1 blocker that reduces heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output by antagonizing sympathetic stimulation of the heart. Both drugs lower blood pressure primarily through reduction in cardiac output; however, nebivolol also improves endothelial function through its unique nitric oxide-mediated effects[1][5][6]. This combination may be considered in patients requiring dual beta-blockade or when switching between agents for improved metabolic or vascular profiles.
