Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination antiretroviral regimen consisting of **nelfinavir**, a human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) protease inhibitor, together with **stavudine** and **lamivudine**, both nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). This regimen is used for the treatment of HIV infection and AIDS. Nelfinavir selectively and potently inhibits HIV-1 protease, blocking virus maturation[2]. Stavudine and lamivudine act by inhibiting HIV reverse transcriptase, thereby disrupting viral replication. The combination aims to enhance antiviral activity by targeting multiple steps in the HIV lifecycle, minimizing resistance and maximizing viral suppression. Synergistic or additive effects have been observed in preclinical research[2].
