neomycin + polymyxin b + dexamethasone

Maxitrol (neomycin sulfate, polymyxin B sulfate, and dexamethasone) is an FDA-approved ophthalmic combination drug used to treat steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions where bacterial infection or a risk of infection exists. It contains two antibiotics—neomycin, which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, and polymyxin B, which disrupts the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane—alongside dexamethasone, a potent corticosteroid that suppresses the inflammatory response. This combination is typically administered as an ophthalmic suspension or ointment for conditions such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, and chronic anterior uveitis.
