Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a veterinary topical combination drug containing neomycin (an aminoglycoside antibiotic), thiostrepton (a cyclic oligopeptide antibiotic), and triamcinolone acetonide (a synthetic corticosteroid). It is most commonly formulated with nystatin as well. The combination provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity (neomycin and thiostrepton), anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects (triamcinolone acetonide), and antifungal action when nystatin is present. The ointment is indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic otitis, interdigital cysts in cats and dogs, anal gland infections in dogs, as well as various dermatologic disorders characterized by inflammation or dermatitis—especially those complicated or threatened by bacterial or fungal infections. Its mechanism of action includes inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis (neomycin/thiostrepton) and suppression of inflammatory responses via glucocorticoid receptor agonism (triamcinolone). This product is approved for use in animals only[1][2][3][4].
