Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Neomycin sulfate + hydrocortisone acetate + polymyxin b is an established fixed-dose **small-molecule combination** anti-infective and anti-inflammatory drug product used primarily for corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses with secondary bacterial infection risk, as well as certain steroid-responsive otic and ophthalmic inflammatory conditions when susceptible bacterial infection is present or likely. The combination pairs **neomycin**, an aminoglycoside antibacterial that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding the 30S ribosomal subunit, with **polymyxin b**, a polypeptide antibacterial that disrupts the bacterial cell membrane of susceptible Gram-negative organisms, and **hydrocortisone acetate**, a corticosteroid anti-inflammatory prodrug of hydrocortisone that activates the glucocorticoid receptor to suppress inflammatory signaling. It is marketed under brand names including Cortisporin and is available in topical cream, ophthalmic suspension, and otic solution formulations from multiple manufacturers as a long-established FDA-approved product.
