Neomycin sulfate + polymyxin B sulfate + bacitracin zinc + hydrocortisone acetate is a sterile, prescription **ophthalmic fixed-dose combination ointment** containing an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid and three antibacterial agents. Hydrocortisone acetate activates the glucocorticoid receptor to suppress ocular inflammation; neomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis through 16S ribosomal RNA binding; polymyxin B disrupts susceptible Gram-negative bacterial outer membranes by binding lipopolysaccharide lipid A; and bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis by targeting undecaprenyl pyrophosphate. The product is indicated for steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions when bacterial infection is present or poses a risk, including inflammatory disorders of the conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment, chronic anterior uveitis, and corneal injury caused by chemical, radiation, or thermal burns or foreign bodies.
