neostigmine (Humax Pharmaceutical)

Astigmin is a brand of neostigmine methylsulfate marketed by Humax Pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of Bausch Health) in Colombia. Neostigmine is a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that functions by competing with acetylcholine for binding to acetylcholinesterase, thereby slowing the hydrolysis of acetylcholine and increasing its concentration at the neuromuscular junction. This enhancement of cholinergic action is utilized clinically to reverse the effects of non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents (such as vecuronium or rocuronium) after surgical procedures. It is also indicated for the symptomatic treatment of myasthenia gravis and the management of postoperative non-obstructive urinary retention and paralytic ileus.
