Overview

The combination of nevirapine and mepivacaine is not a recognized therapeutic regimen in clinical practice. Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) used primarily for the treatment of HIV-1 infection and to prevent mother-to-child transmission. It works by binding directly to the reverse transcriptase enzyme, blocking RNA-dependent and DNA-dependent DNA polymerase activities. Mepivacaine is a local anesthetic of the amide type, commonly used for infiltration, nerve block, and epidural anesthesia. It acts by inhibiting sodium ion influx through voltage-gated sodium channels in the neuronal membrane, thereby preventing the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. There is no established pharmacological rationale or clinical indication for the co-administration of these two agents as a combined product.
