nevirapine + zidovudine

Nevirapine + zidovudine is a fixed-dose combination of two antiretroviral drugs used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that binds directly to reverse transcriptase, causing a disruption in the enzyme's catalytic site and inhibiting viral replication. Zidovudine is a nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that acts as a thymidine analogue, incorporating into viral DNA and causing chain termination during reverse transcription. This combination works synergistically to reduce HIV viral load and increase CD4 cell counts but does not cure HIV or AIDS. It may be used alone as part of an antiretroviral regimen or with other agents for adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 35 kg[2][5]. The primary indication is for the management of HIV-1 infection.
