Drug intelligence / Profile preview
New Shoutai Wan + progesterone is a combination therapy being investigated for the treatment of threatened miscarriage. It consists of New Shoutai Wan (NSTW), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine granule formulation, and oral micronized progesterone (OP). The therapy is the subject of the CHOP-IT (Chinese Herbal medicine and/or Oral Progesterone Intervention Trial for threatened miscarriage) study, a multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled trial led by Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. New Shoutai Wan is formulated to tonify the kidneys and nourish blood according to traditional Chinese medicine principles, while progesterone provides essential hormonal support to maintain the pregnancy by acting on the progesterone receptor to stabilize the uterine lining and reduce contractility. The trial evaluates the efficacy and safety of these components individually and in combination, with the primary goal of increasing live birth rates in women at 5-10 weeks of gestation.
