Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The next-generation pneumococcal vaccine (Adult) is a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) being developed by SK bioscience in collaboration with Sanofi. It is designed to provide broader protection against Streptococcus pneumoniae than currently licensed vaccines by targeting a wider range of serotypes responsible for invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in adult populations. As a conjugate vaccine, it works by stimulating the immune system to recognize and respond to the capsular polysaccharides of the bacteria, which are conjugated to a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity, particularly in older adults. This program is distinct from the companies' 21-valent pediatric vaccine candidate (GBP410) and is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
