Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NIC24-02 is a nicotine-containing mouth spray formulation developed by Niconovum AB, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco, for the treatment of nicotine dependence. As a form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), it is designed to deliver nicotine rapidly through the oral mucosa to the systemic circulation, thereby mimicking the rapid nicotine uptake seen with cigarette smoking and providing quick relief from withdrawal symptoms and cravings. The pharmacological action is mediated through the activation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the brain and peripheral nervous system. Clinical development has focused on optimizing the pharmacokinetic profile of the spray to improve its efficacy in smoking cessation programs.
