Overview

A combination of three cardiovascular medications with complementary mechanisms of action. Nicardipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that is particularly selective for cerebral and coronary blood vessels. It primarily acts as a peripheral arterial vasodilator with minimal effect on cardiac preload. Verapamil is a non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium influx across myocardial and vascular smooth muscle cell membranes, leading to decreased intracellular calcium and inhibited contractile processes of myocardial smooth muscle cells. Nitroglycerin is an organic nitrate and vasodilating agent that causes dilation in both arteries and veins by being converted to nitric oxide, which activates guanylate cyclase, increasing cyclic GMP levels and promoting vascular smooth muscle relaxation. This combination is used primarily for preventing arterial spasm, managing hypertension, and treating angina.
