Overview
Nicotine + prazosin is a combination of two small molecule drugs, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Nicotine is a stimulant that acts as an agonist at various neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, leading to increased dopamine release and stimulation of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Prazosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist that causes vasodilation by blocking the vasoconstrictive effects of catecholamines on blood vessels, primarily used for hypertension. The combination has been studied in preclinical models for its effects on nicotine withdrawal symptoms and may have potential utility in smoking cessation or modulating cardiorespiratory responses to nicotine[3][7][9].
