Overview

A drug combination consisting of the antiparasitic nitazoxanide and the inhaled corticosteroid ciclesonide. This combination was designed to target COVID-19 through two different mechanisms: nitazoxanide potentially acting during the viral replication stage of SARS-CoV-2 infection, and ciclesonide potentially decreasing the likelihood of the inflammatory stage. Both drugs were selected because they were already commercially available and would be affordable and easy to access and administer if proven effective against COVID-19.
