nitazoxanide + pegylated interferon + ribavirin

A combination therapy consisting of nitazoxanide (a thiazolide antiviral), pegylated interferon (either alfa-2a or alfa-2b), and ribavirin. This regimen was investigated primarily for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, particularly for genotype 4. The treatment typically involved either a 4-week lead-in with nitazoxanide monotherapy followed by triple therapy, or direct triple therapy. Nitazoxanide acts by suppressing viral replication through inhibition of virus structural protein synthesis, while pegylated interferon and ribavirin work through immunomodulatory and antiviral mechanisms.
