Overview

NK-92 is an immortalized, interleukin-2 (IL-2)-dependent natural killer (NK) cell line derived from a patient with malignant non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It is characterized by the expression of activating receptors such as NKp30, NKp46, and DNAM-1, and a lack of most inhibitory killer immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs), which confers potent, broad-spectrum cytotoxic activity against various hematologic and solid tumor cells. In clinical and preclinical research, "WT-NK92" (wild-type NK-92) refers to the unmodified parental cell line, which is frequently used as a benchmark or control for engineered variants like Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-NK cells. As a therapeutic, NK-92 cells are typically irradiated prior to infusion to prevent permanent engraftment while maintaining their short-term lytic capacity.
