Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nomacopan + oral corticosteroids is a combination regimen involving **nomacopan**, a recombinant protein that selectively inhibits both complement component C5 and leukotriene B4 (LTB4), and **oral corticosteroids**, a class of synthetic glucocorticoid drugs that act as immunosuppressants. Nomacopan works by binding and neutralizing C5, preventing its cleavage to the potent inflammatory mediator C5a and the membrane attack complex component C5b, as well as directly neutralizing LTB4, a chemoattractant for neutrophils. Oral corticosteroids modulate gene expression to suppress broad proinflammatory pathways. The combination is studied for autoimmune inflammatory diseases, particularly **bullous pemphigoid**, to suppress disease activity via inhibition of complement-driven and leukotriene-driven inflammation, as well as general immunosuppression from corticosteroids.
