Overview

This combination resuscitation regimen consists of low-dose norepinephrine, crystalloid fluids, and blood products. It is being evaluated in a clinical trial sponsored by Tanta University for the treatment of traumatic hemorrhagic shock. Norepinephrine is a catecholamine that acts as a potent agonist at alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, causing peripheral vasoconstriction and increasing mean arterial pressure. It also possesses beta-1 adrenergic activity, which can enhance cardiac contractility and heart rate. The crystalloid fluids and blood products are administered to restore intravascular volume and oxygen-carrying capacity. The protocol investigates whether the early introduction of low-dose norepinephrine, alongside standard fluid and blood resuscitation, can improve 24-hour survival outcomes and reduce the total volume of fluids required in trauma patients.
