Overview
Femyso is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) tablet marketed by Lupin Pharma Canada. It is a generic formulation containing norethindrone acetate (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). The primary mechanism of action is the prevention of pregnancy by suppressing the release of gonadotropins, specifically follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), which inhibits ovulation. Additionally, it induces changes in the cervical mucus, increasing its viscosity to impede sperm penetration, and alters the endometrial lining to reduce the likelihood of implantation. It is indicated for the prevention of conception in women who elect to use oral contraceptives.
