Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Geogynon is a combined oral hormonal preparation containing norethisterone acetate (a synthetic progestin) and ethinylestradiol (a synthetic estrogen). Developed and marketed by Geofman Pharmaceuticals, it is primarily indicated for hormonal therapy in gynaecology, specifically for the treatment of secondary amenorrhea (the absence of menstrual periods) and for regulating menstrual cycles. The combination works by mimicking the natural hormonal fluctuations of the menstrual cycle; when administered as a short course, it induces a withdrawal bleed similar to a normal period once the treatment is completed. It can also provide short-term contraceptive protection.
