Overview
Normal saline + compound methoxyphenamine is a combination therapy used as a control arm in clinical trials evaluating novel treatments for post-infectious cough, such as mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes. This combination consists of nebulized 0.9% sodium chloride (normal saline) and oral compound methoxyphenamine capsules (marketed as Asmei). Compound methoxyphenamine is a multi-ingredient medication containing methoxyphenamine hydrochloride (a bronchodilator), noscapine (an antitussive), aminophylline (a bronchodilator), and chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine). The combination aims to provide symptomatic relief of cough and bronchospasm through multiple mechanisms, including beta-adrenergic stimulation, histamine H1 receptor antagonism, and suppression of the cough reflex.
