Overview

VXA-NVV-104 is an investigational, bivalent oral pill vaccine developed by Vaxart for the prevention of norovirus-associated acute gastroenteritis. The vaccine utilizes Vaxart's proprietary VAAST (Vector-Adjuvant-Antigen Standardized Technology) platform, which employs a non-replicating adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector to deliver genes encoding the VP1 capsid proteins of norovirus GI.1 and GII.4 genogroups. It also incorporates a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) molecule that acts as a Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) agonist adjuvant to stimulate a mucosal immune response in the small intestine. By targeting the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) via an enteric-coated tablet, the vaccine aims to induce both systemic and mucosal immunity, potentially providing protection against norovirus infection and transmission. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development.
