Overview
NOV-205 is a small molecule combination therapy consisting of glutathione and inosine, originally developed by Novelos Therapeutics (now Cellectar Biosciences). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis B and C. The drug functions as a nerve growth factor beta (NGFB) stimulant and immunomodulator, providing hepatoprotective effects and reducing viral replication. While NOV-205 reached Phase 2 clinical trials in the United States for patients with chronic hepatitis C who were non-responsive to standard interferon and ribavirin treatments, it did not proceed to FDA approval. However, the combination is approved and marketed in the Russian Federation under the brand name Molixan for the treatment of various liver diseases, including chronic hepatitis B and C.
