Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Novo-Helisen Depot (NHD) is a standardized allergen extract preparation used for subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) in patients with house dust mite-induced allergic diseases. It consists of a 50/50 mixture of extracts from *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*, which are adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide to create a depot formulation. This formulation allows for the slow release of allergens, facilitating the induction of peripheral T-cell tolerance and a shift from a Th2-mediated allergic response to a Th1/Treg-mediated immune profile. NHD is indicated for the treatment of moderate-to-severe allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and allergic asthma in both children and adults. The preparation is typically administered in a dose-escalation phase followed by a maintenance phase, although accelerated regimens (such as single-concentration accelerated SCIT) are also utilized to reach maintenance doses more rapidly.
