Overview
NSAID + paracetamol is a combination analgesic regimen consisting of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and paracetamol (acetaminophen). This combination is being evaluated by Ain Shams University for the management of postoperative pain, specifically in patients undergoing mechanical pleurodesis for the treatment of pneumothorax. The clinical investigation focuses on whether the anti-inflammatory properties of NSAIDs affect the quality of pleurodesis and the recurrence rates of pneumothorax. NSAIDs function by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins that mediate inflammation and pain. Paracetamol provides complementary analgesia through central nervous system mechanisms, including the potential inhibition of COX-3 and modulation of the endocannabinoid system.
