Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nuvaxovid + Efluelda is an investigational combination vaccine being developed by Sanofi in collaboration with Novavax to protect against seasonal influenza and COVID-19. The vaccine candidate pairs Sanofi's marketed high-dose trivalent inactivated split-virion influenza vaccine, Efluelda (marketed as Fluzone High-Dose in the US), with Novavax's protein-based adjuvanted COVID-19 vaccine, Nuvaxovid (NVX-CoV2705). Efluelda targets the hemagglutinin proteins of influenza virus strains, while Nuvaxovid targets the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Nuvaxovid utilizes recombinant nanoparticle technology and is formulated with Novavax's proprietary saponin-based Matrix-M adjuvant to enhance the immune response. The combination vaccine is currently in Phase 3 clinical development in Europe, evaluating its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in adults aged 60 and older.
