Overview

NVX-CoV2373 (Nuvaxovid) is a recombinant protein subunit nanoparticle vaccine developed by Novavax for the prevention of COVID-19. It consists of the full-length, prefusion-stabilized SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein (based on the Wuhan-Hu-1 strain) produced in a baculovirus/Sf9 insect cell expression system. The spike proteins are organized into nanoparticles and formulated with the proprietary saponin-based Matrix-M1 adjuvant. The vaccine works by inducing neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses against the spike protein, which mediates viral entry into host cells via the ACE2 receptor. It has demonstrated high efficacy in Phase 3 clinical trials and is administered as a two-dose intramuscular regimen.
