NVX-CoV2373 + BCG vaccine is a combination therapy consisting of Novavax's recombinant nanoparticle protein subunit vaccine (NVX-CoV2373) and the live-attenuated Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine. NVX-CoV2373 is designed to elicit a specific immune response against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, utilizing the Matrix-M saponin-based adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity. The BCG vaccine, a live-attenuated strain of *Mycobacterium bovis*, is co-administered or used sequentially to induce 'trained immunity'—a state of heightened innate immune responsiveness characterized by epigenetic and metabolic reprogramming of innate immune cells. This combination is being investigated in clinical trials to determine if the non-specific immunostimulatory effects of BCG can improve the efficacy, durability, and breadth of protection provided by the COVID-19 vaccine, particularly in high-risk or immunocompromised populations such as patients with controlled cancers.
