Overview

NVX-CoV2601 + Matrix-M is a **combination vaccine formulation** consisting of a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (NVX-CoV2601, derived from the Omicron JN.1 lineage) with the Matrix-M adjuvant, developed using Novavax's proprietary nanoparticle technology. NVX-CoV2601 provides the immunogen—a prefusion-stabilized full-length recombinant spike protein—while Matrix-M is a saponin-based nanoparticulate adjuvant derived from Quillaja saponaria that enhances both humoral and cellular immune responses by activating innate immune cells and promoting Th1-dominant adaptive immunity. The vaccine induces high titers of neutralizing antibodies, strong CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses, and broad epitope recognition, leading to strong and durable protection against SARS-CoV-2, particularly the Omicron JN.1 variant targeted by NVX-CoV2601[1][2][4][8].
