**Oblimersen + docetaxel** is a combination regimen consisting of oblimersen, a phosphorothioate antisense oligonucleotide that specifically targets and downregulates Bcl-2 mRNA, and docetaxel, a microtubule-stabilizing taxane chemotherapeutic. Oblimersen reduces expression of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, thereby sensitizing tumor cells to apoptosis induced by cytotoxic agents such as docetaxel. This combination has been evaluated primarily in hormone-refractory/castration-resistant prostate cancer and in neoadjuvant systemic therapy for breast cancer, with the goal of enhancing tumor cell death and improving antitumor efficacy by combining Bcl-2 downregulation with microtubule inhibition[1][2][3][5].
