The drug consists of: - the **F(ab')2 fragment of the OC125 monoclonal antibody** (which targets the CA125 antigen commonly expressed on ovarian tumor cells), - **CITCDTPA** as a chelating agent (6-p-isothiocyanatobenzyl diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid), - **samarium-153 (153Sm)**, a beta-emitting radioisotope for cytotoxic irradiation. This immunoconjugate is designed to selectively localize radiation to CA125-expressing ovarian cancer cells via the antibody fragment, while CITCDTPA enhances the stability of radiometal binding compared to alternative chelators. The improved binding stability of 153Sm with CITCDTPA reduces off-target deposition in non-tumor tissues, favoring tumor-to-nontarget tissue ratios and supporting specific antitumor activity[1][5]. Mechanism of action: OC125F(ab')2 binds to the CA125 antigen on ovarian cancer cells, delivering cytotoxic radiation from samarium-153 directly to the tumor, leading to localized cell death.
