Overview

Octenidine dihydrochloride + phenoxyethanol is a topical antiseptic and disinfectant used for repeated, time-limited antiseptic treatment of skin, mucous membranes, minor wounds, and the oral region. The combination exhibits a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, with bactericidal, fungicidal, and antiviral effects. Octenidine dihydrochloride acts as a cation-active compound that interacts with microbial cell wall and membrane components, leading to cell function destruction. Phenoxyethanol increases cell membrane permeability, specifically for potassium ions, thereby exerting antimicrobial action. The combination is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts, skin fungi, and some viruses (e.g., hepatitis B)[1][5][8]. It is used in wound care, preoperative skin preparation, pediatric care, oral mucosa disinfection, and acne management[2][4][6].
