Overview

This is a combination of two long-acting somatostatin analogues—octreotide (as the long-acting release formulation, LAR) and lanreotide (as the Autogel formulation). Both drugs act as synthetic analogues of somatostatin and bind primarily to somatostatin receptor subtypes 2 and 5. Their mechanism involves inhibition of growth hormone (GH) secretion and reduction in insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), making them effective for conditions such as acromegaly and neuroendocrine tumors. Octreotide-LAR is administered intramuscularly, while Lanreotide Autogel is given via deep subcutaneous injection. Both are used for symptom control and tumor growth suppression in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors as well as for biochemical control in acromegaly[3][4][5][6][8].
