Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Octreotide (CAM2029) is a long-acting subcutaneous depot formulation of the somatostatin analog octreotide, developed by Camurus using its proprietary FluidCrystal injection depot technology. It is designed for the treatment of acromegaly and gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NET). Unlike standard long-acting somatostatin analogs that require complex reconstitution and large-bore needles for intramuscular injection, CAM2029 is provided in a pre-filled syringe for easy subcutaneous administration. It works by binding to somatostatin receptors (primarily SSTR2), inhibiting the secretion of growth hormone and various peptides in the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas. In June 2024, the CHMP issued a positive opinion for the approval of CAM2029 under the brand name Orazue for the treatment of acromegaly in the European Union.
