Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination antibiotic containing ofloxacin (a fluoroquinolone) and azithromycin (a macrolide). **Ofloxacin** prevents bacterial DNA replication by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication. **Azithromycin** prevents protein synthesis in bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This combination provides a broader spectrum of activity and is primarily used to treat various bacterial infections, including community-acquired pneumonia, complicated urinary tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, skin and soft tissue infections, acute bacterial sinusitis, and sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea and chlamydia).
