Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Adof is a fixed-dose combination of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ofloxacin and the probiotic Lactobacillus. It is used to treat various bacterial infections, including pneumonia, bronchitis, and urinary tract infections, while simultaneously preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Ofloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair, thereby leading to bacterial cell death. Lactobacillus is a live probiotic microorganism that helps restore and maintain the natural balance of beneficial gut microflora, which is often disrupted by antibiotic therapy or intestinal infections.
