elmex CARIES PROTECTION dental rinse is a fluoride-based oral solution developed by GABA International (now a subsidiary of Colgate-Palmolive) for the prevention of dental caries. The formulation contains a combination of amine fluoride (olaflur) and sodium fluoride, providing a total fluoride concentration of 250 ppm. Its primary mechanism of action involves the interaction of fluoride ions with the hydroxyapatite in tooth enamel, facilitating the formation of a calcium fluoride-like layer that enhances remineralization and increases resistance to acid-induced demineralization. This alcohol-free rinse is particularly indicated for daily use in individuals at high risk for tooth decay, including those undergoing orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances. It is intended as a complement to daily tooth brushing and is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.
